The WTF Blanket

Thank you to Stacey

for a much-valued laugh.

No NASA Funding to Extend Space Shuttle

Damn.

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's newly released budget deals a political blow to two pillars of the Houston economy -- the energy industry and NASA.

Can't catch a break. Guess I should have borrowed more money than I can pay back.

Oh Really?

bigjpg.jpg

has a way of stating the obvious in huge headlines as if we are all being awakened to news of a sudden surprise attack.

I envy those still asleep.

Well-behaved Dogs in the Workplace?

petsx.jpg

The impulse is to say, "yes, as long as the other dogs don't bother mine." But I don't see this working out wholesale.

Plus, what to do about going to meetings?

Nope. I'm afraid Emerson will simply have to snooze in luxury on his window bed at home during the day, under monitoring by the Emerson Cam.

Hard..to...get...going....

Slow start again.

One way to improve this recent trend might be to turn off AM radio and any form of the news on TV or the internet. First of all, it is daily dismal, which attacks my mood right away. Secondly, I tend to dawdle when I should be thinking about the day and getting ready.

Of course, blogging has no claim to insert any morning delays...

Kate Howard - "General Hospital"

bigmegan_banner.png

Kate on "General Hospital."

When are you going to stop ridiculing me about this?

I did my time today, studied statistics for upcoming work class, shuffled tax folders, walked the dog, microwaved dinner.

A bachelor can only stand so much scorn!

And no, I am not watching the political parade otherwise known as The Academy Awards tonight and pleased to declare I have seen none of the movies in nomination.

Go Kate! (the other one)

Star Trek - Appearing When Again?

star_trek_03_1024.jpg

It may not be the most quiet of Edith Keeler dialog movies, but I am ready for it all the same.

I think the ship is well structured and Deanna Troy, and if I am mixing up centuries - sue me.

For Those Who Can't Leave the "Brady Bunch" Well Enough Alone

gregbrady.jpg

Barry has an interesting blog, complete with topical observations and reminiscences on what it was like to be Greg Brady in a house where kitchen counter tops were orange.

I Can't Wait. No Really.

Validation

My friend Stacey

clued me in to this great short film.

Long relative length for YouTube (special dispensation?)

Takes only a few minutes to get hooked and wonder how it all ends with Victoria. :)

New York Times Stock Now Costs Less Than Sunday Paper

I'm all broken up.

where "all the news fit to print," has morphed into "all the news that fits, we print."

And to think I used to subscribe to the N.Y. Times many years ago because I thought it was "cool" and "trendy." Yet even back then, it angered me too much that I quit it.

Busy

Home cramming a burrito into my pie hole after an entire morning of spreadsheet madness. Actually, it is the schedule on the spreadsheet which is likely to inspire a sense of madness.

Part of the job.

At least the dog is being entertained by workmen next door just in his field of view.

Facebook is having trouble dousing a firestorm

I'm not worried.

I Actually Do Have a Day Job

emilyjpg.jpg
That is the rumor, anyway.

Emily/Rebecca

Rebecca/Emily

I am tired of trying to understand this show.

Six weeks in the early 80's, standing around with the other guys in the back of the girls dorm living room.

And I have to suffer forever into my major forties, complete with DVR replays?

I am not Mr. Mom.

Nod "yes" in a consoling way.

Philosophical Bravery

Wake Me Up Before the Six AM Go-Go

Anime gone wild.

They all look like Speed Racer.

Change Your Mind

bedazzled.jpg

Caught it again recently.

If we are all going to the devil, let it be Elizabeth Hurly.

Cool end song in the park where she plays chess with an angel and swaps pieces while he gazes at the stutter framework the film producers pulled on him.

Check out this tongue-in-cheek movie. It gets better every time I see this sweet, silent gem.

Thanks also to Sister Hazel who nailed a perfectly constructed musical blend.

Close Call

fire.jpg

is down my block, just across a small street from the other units of my own townhouse units. Quite the neighborhood gathering last night.

We are all still shell-shocked from hurricane Ike, but this is a reminder that everything can go up in smoke without warning. Time to revisit content of fire safety box this weekend.

Televisions to be fitted in contact lenses within ten years

WOW

I like my TV as much as the next junkie, but this is ridiculous.

Who Are These Guys?

Occasionally, I am inclined to post something that grabs me.

It may not be for everybody, but you are not paying for my web space, are you? ;)

This song is the intro-theme to the movie "21" with Kevin Spacey coaching smart college kids how to win blackjack in Vegas before of course it all came crashing down, even without Joe Pesci.

Never heard of this band. Quite young and quite strange. But ya gotta take it all in. I like the keyboard riff.

Peanut Farmers

carterjpg.jpg
Please quiet thyself, Mr. Carter.

Better yet, just go away. Haven't you done enough damage?

Your legacy of ineptitude is second only to an astonishing ability to hate the country which gave you tremendous blessings.

Relieve us all from further embarrassment and vanish.

Sincerely,

America

Blast From the Past

blastjpg.jpg

appears lately on one of the Starz or Encore channels.

Christopher Walken is a genius. Never fails to crack me up. His voice. His impeccable timing.

Oh my God, how hilarious with the taped-over-nose eyeglasses in the fallout shelter for 30 years with Sissy Spacek sipping enervating workout juice from a martini glass.

Then Brendan Fraser gets Alicia Silverstone, but that is beside the point.

Allow us in morning reverie to revisit a few geriatric dance moves, especially the hands-in-pockets part.

Google vs. FaceBook

googlejpg.jpg
Lately, Facebook has consumed more and more time that should otherwise be reserved for matters such as eating, sleeping, paying bills.

But if one steers away from the social experience towards pure curiosity seeking, the wealth of Google tools is equally a time-sapper. Map street view is pretty amazing. And sky view. Now they have an underwater view I have yet to check out.

None of this is any help getting me ready for the cubicle.

What's your point Bill?

Modems and Routers, Oh My

modem.jpg
Now I can waste more time on the internet at ever faster speeds, new modem along with fast router and expensive Comcast plan.

Sometimes all the plastic animals talk to each other. Sometimes they don't.

Newsflash: I am Awake

Let the heralding begin.

For some reason, I seem to be living this Monday over and over.

As for this?

<-- Did not watch it and could not care less.

We now enter the pre-baseball sports horse latitudes of doldrum.

Random Actresses - Brittany Murphy

brittany-murphy.jpg

This admittedly gratuitous post speaks of why I pay $19.95/month to Fluidhosting for exercising computer servers in Boston and California.

<-- Welcome to a private flyleaf for one compelling chick. Miss Brittany Murphy.

Whenever she is on screen, I cannot remember my own social security number.

Mesmerizing eyes.

Remember "Clueless?" "Uptown Girls?"Riding in Cars with Boys?"

"Don't Say a Word." "Sidewalks of New York."

Stop me before I sound like IMDB.

brit3.jpg

I can tell when a person is fundamentally kind.

Excellent actress.

I think she wants to be a mom.

Survived "peek-a-boo" status with one of the Dakotas, and precocious children annoy me.

Drew's best friend --->

Brittany is like Joan Cusack: sick of always being everyone else's best freakin friend.

brittany2.jpg

<--- Witness our darling of the moment 30 minutes before her Calculus exam at The University of Texas.

Thinking derivatives and integrals.

What's going to kill you is she has that stuff down cold.

I found that hard myself, especially the train A meets train B at 45 MPH on elevated incline scenario where the test is to determine wheel friction from snow against iron railings.

This girl wrote 1.61803399

Which is always the golden ratio right answer.

Then she could not resist trying to seduce the instructor, who actually spoke english.

Long story short, Brittany confused her target with the teaching assistant, another hapless guy, for the real professor who  offered herself on the day of final exams as a parched woman of non-San-Franciscan persuasion.

Complete meltdown of ill-placed, pink bras under soft white camisole.

I wish I had been there, but she got away with a "B" after scratching at the end of her test, "is that all?"

Hello

Get me the hell out of here.
